Mixed Operation Farmer
I grew up on a dairy farm in Ontario, after high school I got my degree in crop management and livestock productions from Kemptville collage. I moved from Ontario to Alberta in 2005 on my own, there was no work in the east, and I wanted to build a new life and a future. I had enrolled in a drilling rig training course, after finishing I got on as a floor hand and worked up to motors, drilling oil wells in the Edson and Hinton areas.
Within a few years, I started operating oil and gas wells, then became a pipe fitter working in Edmonton, in the oil and gas refineries, then we moved to Grande Prairie, working as a pipe fitter for a new company with a new relationship, in a year I became the Production Coordinator then to the Production Manager. I have been a Production Manager for the last 10 years and getting stagnant and tired of trading time for money.
In 2013 we bought a quarter section, with a house, shop, and some outbuildings, and started building a cow/calf operation. In 2018, we separated a relationship of 9 years, I bought her out of the farm and was somewhat living paycheck to paycheck and did not feel financially secure. Today I have 50 cows, with a mixture of different crops, from corn, grains to hay.
I am old school and respectful, hold your head up, look a person in the eye when talking to them, a firm handshake, I’m honest, open and true, I do not play games and do not put up with much BS, say it how it is. honesty is the only policy; I need to go to bed with a clear conscience, if I make a mistake, I will make it right and admit my mistake...
